Description
During exercise, the body perspires so that body temperature would not rise too high. The fluid that is lost must be replenished by drinking to maintain fluid balance. Taking in too little fluid relative to fluid loss (= dehydration) will have a negative effect on performance.
Besides restoring or maintaining fluid balance, a sports drink can also maintain blood glucose (sugar in the blood) and replenish muscle glycogen (sugar in the muscle). This is important as performance is affected by how many carbohydrates are available.
With an isotonic drink, the number of particles of the drink are equal to the number of particles in the blood and therefore both water, carbohydrates and minerals are optimally absorbed. Vitalic sports drinks are therefore the ideal thirst quencher.
In addition, performance in endurance sports depends on muscle glycogen reserves. It is therefore important to replenish fuel reserves with additional carbohydrates during exercise. If no carbohydrates were ingested during prolonged exercise, muscle glycogen reserves would be depleted after about 90 minutes. The amount of carbohydrates you should take in during exercise depends on the duration of the exercise.

- Efforts 2-3 hours: 60 g of carbohydrates per hour of exercise (approx. 1 l Isotonic).
- Efforts >2.5-3 hours: up to 90 g of carbohydrates per hour of effort (up to about 1.5 l Isotonic).
Vitalic contains both dextrose and fructose. For efforts longer than 2.5h, it is recommended to take between 60g and 90g of carbohydrates per hour. This is only possible when different types of carbohydrates are taken at the same time (=multi-transportable carbohydrates). This is because the glucose transporter is saturated at a carbohydrate intake of 60g per hour. So to be able to absorb more than 60g of carbohydrate per hour, it is best to combine dextrose with, for example, fructose, which uses a different transporter and is more slowly oxidised (1).
The 1-to-1 ratio of Vitalic sports drinks has the advantage that:
- more ingested carbohydrates are oxidised;
- faster gastric emptying occurs;
- increased fluid absorption occurs;
- it is well tolerated by the stomach
Moreover, this isotonic thirst quencher also contains sodium which helps to compensate for electrolyte loss (due to sweating). The addition of electrolytes also improves fluid retention and stimulates thirst. For efforts longer than 2h, it is recommended to drink a sports drink containing 0.4-1.1g/L of sodium.

Directions for use
Top up 1 sachet (50ml) to 500ml with water. Drink at least 500ml per hour of exercise. In warmer temperatures and during intense efforts, it is recommended to drink up to 750ml or 1l per hour.
This concentrate is an isotonic drink for athletes, enriched with minerals. A varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Suitable for persons aged 13 and over.
